Accessibility
WeighTooMuch aims to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. This page says what is actually done, what is not, and how to tell me if something doesn't work for you.
What's in place
- Every image has alt text, and controls that are icons carry a spoken label.
- The whole app can be used with a keyboard, and the focus outline stays visible when you're tabbing.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and transitions are reduced.
- Colour contrast is checked automatically. Text and chart lines have to pass a contrast test before they can be released — including every colour in the app colour picker. A colour that fails can't ship.
- Text scales with your device's text-size setting rather than being locked to a fixed size.
What hasn't been tested
This app is built and run by one person, and some things are genuinely unverified:
- It has not been tested end to end with VoiceOver, TalkBack or a screen magnifier by someone who uses one daily. The markup is written to support them; that is not the same as knowing it works.
- The barcode and nutrition-label scanners need a camera and a steady hand, and there is no non-camera alternative for them yet — though everything they do can also be typed in by hand.
- The charts convey information visually. The same numbers are available as text elsewhere in the app, but the charts themselves are not described.
If something doesn't work
Please tell me — it's the fastest way for it to get fixed, and reports from real use are worth more than any checklist. Get in touch and describe what you were trying to do, what happened, and which device or assistive technology you were using.
There is no accessibility overlay or accessibility widget on this site, deliberately. Those tend to make pages worse for the people they claim to help; the aim here is for the app itself to work.
